Where can I find images for my website?

It is nice to have images on your website - in most cases, websites without images look quite dull. Of course, the best pictures to use are the ones you take yourself. But if you don't have access to great equipment or a professional photographer, there are alternatives.

Using a picture library

The internet is full of image galleries where pictures can be downloaded for free or for a charge. For example, iStockphoto is a great place to buy low-price stock photos. Prices start at 1 USD and come in different sizes.

Creative Commons

Creative Commons is a type of licence where the copyright owner allows people to use content for free - to a certain extent. Sometimes you are allowed to reproduce the content without authority, sometimes you need to ask the copyright holder for permission (there is also restrictions to whether or not the content can be used for commecial purposes). At Flickr, among other places, there is a special section where you can browse images that have some sort of Creative Commons licence. Remember to take a closer look at the licence for a specific picture before using it.
